Aquarium Drunkard has come through yet again, posting 7 songs from the Beach Boys rehearsing in 1967. The sound is so gentle, clear and loose, with them feeling each other out on the harmonies and getting comfortable in the sound, and includes a bit of the studio chatter and noise that makes recordings really come to life — “Heroes and Villains” is particularly fun. And “God Only Knows”… well, it’s beautiful in an entirely different way here, and I didn’t know that was possible.
